Information for Parents of Children, Birth - Age Four

It is an honor to have you and your children as members of our congregation. Below you will find some information about childcare in our congregation.

Mission Statement

We, the Christian Education Division of Summerville Presbyterian Church, seek to provide a place of care and nurture for children ages birth through four years. Because we affirm that all children are a gift from God and that they depend upon adults for safety and security, the childcare we provide will be a place where children are loved and cared for physically, emotionally and spiritually. Because we believe that Christian education and nurture are a joint venture between parents and the church, we seek to provide childcare where parents are welcome and feel confident leaving their children while they attend worship, Sunday school or church functions. We also seek to support and fairly compensate our childcare providers for their ministry to our youngest children.

Childcare Providers

Our Childcare Providers are all Red Cross Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certified and have had a background check performed through SLED.

  • Infants and Toddlers - Magaret Gordon and Bethany Bryant
  • Two Year Olds - Reanee Player
  • Three and Four Year Olds - Kate McAliley and Sarah McAliley

Childcare Times

Childcare is provided every Sunday morning and for special worship services. In general, childcare is provided for birth through age 2 throughout the Sunday School and the Worship service. Children age 3 and 4 are invited to worship through the Children's Message and then will rejoin their Sunday School class.

Childcare is also provided for special events and Wednesday Night Live gatherings, based on programming requirements.

We will occasionally supplement our paid adult staff with "certified sitters". These young people have attended and passed a Red Cross Babysitter class with an emphasis on infant CPR and First Aid.

We ask all parents to:

  • Sign your child in and out on the sheet provided in each room. Note any allergies or special needs.
  • Pick up and record a pager number. (Be sure to return it when you pick up your child.)
  • Bring additional diapers for your child. We strongly encourage you to bring a change of clothes, especially for infants and those in the process of potty training.
  • Bring juice, milk, formula or preferred beverage for your child to have during Sunday school and church. We always have apple juice and water to serve. We also provide a variety of snack crackers.
  • When picking up your child, be aware of children standing on the opposite side of the door.
  • Your child will only be released to you or another designated adult. Please do not send an older sibling.
  • If your child has a special routine, especially at nap time, please advise our childcare providers.

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please contact Christy Gurley, Interim Director of Christian Education (843-871-0280).
