The Old White Church at Dorchester, SC, founded in 1696 was established in 1858 by the Charleston Presbytery and has maintained a lasting witness to the gospel in the Low Country. The present church, created in 1895, is located in the heart of old town, with six other churches located in a two-block radius.
Summerville Presbyterian is led by our Session of 23 elders who oversee our ministry teams. Our teams are Evangelism, Christian Education, Finance, Mission, Congregational Programs, Property, Pastoral Care, Worship and Music, and Long Range Planning.
We hold two Sunday services separated by the Sunday school hour, which consists of 6 adult classes and infant through senior high youth. Special services are held for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Scottish Heritage and Christmas Eve. The youth provide a Living Nativity and an annual Youth Service. Our children lead Children's Sabbath in the fall, and also enjoy Vacation Bible School and seasonal camps.
Our church offers a Wednesday night supper and Bible study, 5 Presbyterian Women Circles, choirs for all ages, a handbell choir, Prime Timers, Salt Shakers, basketball and volleyball. We have an annual Mission Emphasis Week and annual mission trips that have led groups to Honduras, the Bahamas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Mississippi. Our church also has an active role in Meals on Wheels, HELP, the Palmetto House Homeless Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, and the Dorchester County Detention Center.

Our church is blessed with exceptionally gifted and talented members who give freely of their time, talents and varied resources. We are a generous church family and assist many organizations in the community as well as individuals in need.
Stewardship of our congregation is evidenced by our fully funding and constructing a Habitat for Humanity house.
Our members bring natural wisdom and experiences with a variety of educational and occupational levels; i.e. educators, physicians, corporate executives, small business owners with education from high school diplomas to doctoral degrees. These members remain exceptionally active.
The younger members of our congregation are actively participating in various youth groups and show enthusiasm in many of our outreach opportunities. Our children are encouraged from an early age to show God's love through mission work.
Being grateful for the many gifts that God has provided us, we as a congregation continue to eagerly share these talents.

Summerville Presbyterian Church affirms its beliefs through worship, sacraments, and outreach to members and the community as true disciples of Jesus Christ. We are a congregation that actively supports ecumenical activities that nurture spiritual and physical needs of our congregation and others in our community.
We are concerned with the disintegration of the family unit, racial issues, crime, substance abuse and general moral decay. We support community organizations that address these issues, along with pastoral counseling, promotion of Biblical teachings and congregational awareness.
Our church membership reaches out to the Presbyterian Village's senior citizen population through a variety of activities uniting the young, the middle-aged and the older members.
We recognize that we are called to glorify God as we grow in faith. Our Christian education programs are primarily based on Presbyterian created curriculum and the church calendar.
We recognize the need for continued growth. Our youth, young adults, and older adults continue this theme through church school, Wednesday night programs, and church wide mission trips.
From birth to death, we strive as a congregation to demonstrate our joyful response to the grace of God.

B. Characteristics and qualifications needed
The Associate Pastor we are seeking must have a deep personal relationship with God that is conveyed through his/her leadership skills, teaching abilities and personal lifestyle. Our Associate Pastor should be active throughout the congregation through fellowship, congregational communication, teaching opportunities, and should be easily approached by all. The ability to acknowledge and include all members of our fellowship, from the youngest child to oldest adult, is necessary for a quality relationship with our church. We expect the Associate Pastor to be comfortable visiting with those who are hospitalized or shut-in, and to provide spiritual counseling to those in need. Our Associate Pastor should work well as part of a team by offering organizational skills, spiritual leadership and creativity.
