Congregational Programs Ministry Team

The mission of the Congregational Programs Ministry Team is to minister to the members of our church, helping them to develop that sense of community that marks the church of Jesus Christ. In general the duties of the Congregational Programs Ministry Team are to guide the congregation into a deeper fellowship and to provide for all members of the church personal and family nurture in Christian fellowship. In discharging its responsibility for the congregational program of the church, the ministry team seeks ways to improve the church's ministry to, and nurture of, identifiable groups in the congregation. The Ministry Team creates, coordinates, and has oversight of all congregational activities of fellowship and nurture (not including the Christian Education Program).

Programs designed and delivered primarily to our congregation include our Wednesday Night Live (WNL) Program, which is done in the spring and the fall. WNL consists of congregational suppers followed by Bible Study and children's activities. The Saltshakers Program, also done in the spring and fall, provides another excellent opportunity to meet new people and enjoy fellowship together. Saltshakers are a series of suppers for groups of six to eight held in either people's homes or local area restaurants. Members of the congregation fifty years of age or older can participate in our Prime Timers program. The Prime Timers meet for various activities and go on trips in and around South Carolina. The Presbyterian Women's group provides a forum for the ladies in our Church to fellowship.

The Programs Ministry Team also sponsors our annual SPC Pig Pickin' in January, a Candlelight Dinner, held in February around Valentine's Day, the Church Picnic in April, and an Ice Cream Social in August. Recreational activities include the golf tournament, Jr. and Sr. Girls/Boys Basketball, and attending local sports events through SPC night at the River dog's baseball or South Carolina Stingrays hockey games. Members can also showcase their talents at our annual SPC Talent and Variety Show.

Still other programs are designed as outreach opportunities to our community to help better our lives and those around us. These programs include the Open Gym for basketball or volleyball, where our gym is open to the public for recreational time. The Presbyterian Home Reception and the Presbyterian Home Luncheon are held for both members and non-members of our congregation who reside at the Presbyterian Village. We also hosted a Program on Aging to provide valuable information to our senior citizens.

For the past two years, the Programs Ministry Team has sponsored a team for the American Cancer Societies' Relay For Life program. The 2006 team consisted of our youth and advisors. The event was so successful that in 2007 the team was expanded to include members from the entire congregation. SPC had the largest team in the 2007 Summerville Relay For Life and through the wonderful caring and giving of our congregation, raised over $3,200.00 to help in the fight against cancer.

These programs are all designed to meet the "Great Ends of the Church" and enrich the lives of the congregation of Summerville Presbyterian Church, our families, friends, and our community. No matter what your age, there is something for everyone, and always "room at the table" if you are interested in joining a group or serving for an event.
