Women</li> <li id="five">Relay For Life</li> <li id="six">Other</li> </ul> <span class="clear"></span> <div class="material one"> <h3>Congregational Programs Team</h3> <p>The mission of the Congregational Programs Ministry Team is to minister to the members of our church, helping them to develop that sense of community that marks the church of Jesus Christ. In general the duties of the Congregational Programs Ministry Team are to guide the congregation into a deeper fellowship and to provide for all members of the church personal and family nurture in Christian fellowship. In discharging its responsibility for the congregational program of the church, <b>the ministry team seeks ways to improve the church s ministry to, and nurture of, identifiable groups in the congregation</b>. The Ministry Team creates, coordinates, and has oversight of all congregational activities of fellowship and nurture (not including the Christian Education Program).</p> <p>These programs are all designed to meet the "Great Ends of the Church" and enrich the lives of the congregation of Summerville Presbyterian Church, our families, friends, and our community. No matter what your age, there is something for everyone, and always "room at the table" if you are interested in joining a group or serving for an event.</p> </div> <div class="material two"> <h3>Wednesday Night Live</h3> <p>Wednesday Night Live (WNL) is SPC s weekly meals and programs for the entire congregation during the spring and fall. Each week we share great food, fellowship and faith development. Charles Patterson, our chef, cooks delicious meals, and volunteers work to set-up, serve and clean-up.</p> <p>Our ministers, Dr. Mike Shelton and Lamar Carney, along with music director Deborah Styles and organist Jim Moore lead us in gathering time - an opportunity to pray, sing, and read scriptures before beginning our classes. We offer classes for adults in a wide variety of subjects, such as bible and small group studies; the Apostles Creed; Faith through the Arts; shag dancing lessons; and many more. Our Director of Children and Youth Ministries, Kari Goforth, leads our Wednesday night children and youth programs.</p> </div> <div class="material three"> <h3>Fellowship</h3> <h2>Let s eat!</h2> <ul> <li>Our annual SPC Pig Pickin , held in January, is one of our Church s most popular events. We enjoy delicious pulled pork, fried turkeys, Boston Butts and all the fixin s.</li> <li>The Candlelight Dinner, held in February around Valentine s Day, provides an opportunity for adults to enjoy a formal meal and the youth an opportunity to serve and raise money for summer youth events.</li> <li>The Presbyterian Village Appreciation Luncheon is an event co-sponsored by our Programs and Pastoral Care Ministry teams and honors all the residents at the Presbyterian Village</li> <li>The Church Picnic in April is an excellent opportunity to welcome spring.</li> <li>The Ice Cream Social in September is held in conjunction with the Sunday school Rally Day kick-off.</li> <li>Additionally, the men of our congregation fix and serve breakfast on the second Sundays through the school year with a special treat of shrimp and grits in December.</li> </ul> <h2>Salt Shakers and Prime Timers</h2> <p>The Saltshakers Program, also offered in the spring and fall, provides another excellent opportunity to meet new people and enjoy fellowship together. Saltshakers are a series of suppers in which groups of six to eight people gather to dine in homes or local area restaurants. Members of the congregation 50 years of age or older participate in our Prime Timers program. The Prime Timers meet for various activities and go on trips in and around South Carolina.</p> </div> <div class="material four"> <h3>Presbyterian Women</h3> <p>Presbyterian Women is a national organization more than 200 years old with over 300,000 members. Presbyterian Women of Summerville Presbyterian is currently a group of close to 100 women who gather monthly in small groups called circles.</p> <p><u>What is Our Purpose?</u> Our purpose is to gather as women of the church to share and study our faith in God and Jesus Christ, support mission programs and lend Christian support to each other through circle meetings, gatherings, and special events.</p> <p><u>What is a Circle?</u> A circle is a gathering of women, once a month, in homes, the church, or other locations to study God s word, support programs, and nurture each other. There are currently six circles of 15 - 20 women each.</p> <p><u>When do Circles Meet?</u> Circles 1 through 5 meet the 2nnd Tuesday of each month. <ul> <li>Circle 1 - 1:30 p.m. at the Church</li> <li>Circle 2 - 10:00 a.m. at member homes</li> <li>Circle 3 - 10:00 a.m. at member homes</li> <li>Circle 4 - 10:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Village</li> <li>Circle 5 - 7:00 p.m. at the Church</li> </ul> Additionally, the High School Girl s Bible study meets at 6:30 p.m. on the 4th Monday of each month.</p> <p>All the Circles gather together three times a year: <ul> <li>In August for the Annual Gathering to open the new year and install officers.</li> <li>In January for a Winter Tea for all women of the Church.</li> <li>In May to celebrate the Birthday of Presbyterian Women and contribute to the Birthday Offering.</li> </ul> </p> <p><u>What Programs do we Support?</u> There are many programs that Presbyterian Women support both financially and hands on. Some of these are: <ul> <li>Thornwell Home for Children</li> <li>Church World Services</li> <li>Charleston Atlantic Campus Ministry</li> <li>Columbia Friendship Circle</li> <li>Mission Haven</li> <li>Haiti Women s Micro Finance Project</li> <li>Least Coin Fellowship</li> <li>Birthday Offering</li> <li>Thank Offering</li> <li>Spann Scholarship of Summerville High School</li> <li>Hands of Christ</li> <li>Presbyterian Village Christmas Gifts</li> <li>Christmas ornaments for the children of SPC, Children in Crisis, and Palmetto House</li> </ul> </p> <p><u>How do I get involved?</u> Attend a circle meeting of your choice. Call Betsy Porter at (843) 832-9423 or Gail Hausler at (843) 821-1784 for more information. </p> </div> <div class="material five"> <h3>Relay for Life</h3> <p>The SPC congregation sponsors a team for the American Cancer Society s Relay For Life program. Through the wonderful caring and giving of our congregation, our teams of youth, children, and adults raise money to help in the fight against cancer.</p> </div> <div class="material six"> <h3>Other Programs</h3> <h2>SPC s got Talent!</h2> <p>In November each year, for our Wednesday Night Live finale, our congregation gathers to enjoy a delicious spaghetti dinner and be entertained, amused and amazed as we showcase our talents at our annual SPC Talent and Variety Show.</p> <h2>Play ball!</h2> <p>Recreational activities include the junior and senior high girl s basketball teams and outreach opportunities to our community through our Open Gym for basketball or volleyball, where our gym is open to the public for recreational time.
